Family Holidays

January 2021 update

We are now taking bookings from Easter onwards. Almost All Inclusive currently planned for July and August. First week of July Sold Out.

Le Castel and Covid19

We have gone for a sensible but relaxed covid policy that hopefully allows you to have a great holiday in a safe environment.
Upon arrival at Le Castel the usual handshake will be exchanged for liberal squirts of alcohol hand gel for everyone followed by a quick temperature check with an Infra red gun that takes one second. Anyone with a high temperature will be escorted off the premises by dogs in hasmat suits.
Meal times will involve more squirts of gel. There will be baby wipes everywhere....we had those before!
We have made a number of other changes...
Meals will be one family on a table rather than the usual melee. Buffets will be swapped for individual portions...but don’t be afraid to ask for more if any portion is too small. We have always gone for individual jams, butters etc because even in normal times you don’t want little Archie dipping his spoon in the jam, licking it and putting it back.
The much loved slow roasted belly of pork will be swapped for individual roast chickens for each family.
Play sessions won’t be happening this year, but we are planning to do movies on the big screen before and after dinner time so hopefully parents get some down time. After 8pm kids will be banished to their bedrooms for adult only drinking time...at a distance!
Rooms will not be serviced during your stay. We already had a system for nappies and that will continue. There will be a new system for towels, wet beds etc. At the end of your stay it would be appreciated if you would strip your beds.
We are assuming there will be no social distancing with the nippers, but adults will be able to socialise easily in three acres of parkland. The hammocks are particularly good for social distanced chats and drinks.
Chris, who helps me, is very covid conscious. Everything coming out of the kitchen will have been produced in a safe environment. All left over food will be disposed of. We have a high temperature dishwasher.

We only offer almost all inclusive holidays from mid July to end of August with play sessions. At other times we offer three to seven night breaks on a B&B basis or almost all inclusive basis but without play sessions.

Usually in July and August we only do week long holidays from Sunday to Sunday. We can be more flexible in early July and last week of August.

The good news is that our prices are in sterling so you don't have to worry about the exchange rate!

We are ideally set up for families with babies and toddlers.

Prices for all inclusive holidys are in £ sterling, but payment can be made in sterling or euro.

Our almost all inclusive holidays

Chateau almost  all inclusive packages for families run during the Easter, May half term and summer school holidays. Other dates upon request (including October half term, Christmas and New Year)

Summer prices from £2,500 to £3,800 sterling for a family of three or four – includes accommodation for a week in a luxurious two bedroomed suite, evening meals each day except Thursday, drinks (soft beverages, wine and beer and house spirits), organised play sessions on most days for children aged 3 to 12 (subject to covid restrictions). Additional children £200 for a week in peak season.

Lunches are not included on any day as some families want to go out exploring every day while others have a more relaxed approach to their holidays. You are welcome to bring picnic items back for lunch .

Packages run from Sunday to Sunday in the chateau. Cottage weeks Saturday to Saturday. We used to do Saturday changeovers in the chateau but decided to switch so that you can enjoy a quieter day for travelling - toll booth queues in summer can be horrendous.

During summer (July and August) we only offer week long all inclusive packages

At other times there is a three night minimum stay - you can find B&B prices on the Chambre d'hote page for B&B. Or see below for special three and four night packages with meals outside of the main holidays.

For bookings outside of UK school holidays we can often offer week long all inclusive holidays at a 15% discount (see prices below), but no play sessions are included. It is subject to availability.

Please read the Pros & Cons page to get an honest view of Le Castel. Also read the Parent's Comments page.

Irish and Dutch Clients!

We are very popular with Irish and Dutch people but we price in sterling, which can be off putting. However, contact us for special deals.

Your summer school holidays are a mystery - each school seems to set its own dates, but we love having you at Le Castel, so we try to offer the all inclusive package from June 1 to July 1 (usually without child play sessions). We also try to help you out with some discounts as our prices are in UK sterling and the exchange rate fluctuates. Contact me with an Irish Republic or Dutch  email address or telephone and I will tailor price and services for you between June 1 and July 1. Normal prices at other times! It is possible to add in play sessions outside of the summer season but is subject to staff availability.

The almost all-inclusive holidays offer:

*7 nights accommodation in a two bedroomed suite or cottage

*All evening meals (except Thursdays), including children’s meals at 5.30pm most days followed by adult only suppers or dinner later. Lunches are not included.

* Drinks, including wine by the glass, beer, soft beverages, milk, water, teas, coffees

* Free ice cream and lollies - there is a freezer where kids can help themselves. Some parents ask us to monitor it a bit more closely!

*Children's organised play sessions on many days so parents can either have a lie in or simply read a book in peace. Parents must remain on the premises, but you can put your feet up and relax! Children must generally be 3, but we make exceptions to this rule if very (VERY!) slightly younger children are happy to join in the sessions.

Each family suite or cottage has a box of toys and children’s books. There is also UK telly in the lounge (with CBeebies!), DVDs, books and wi fi.

We have a trampoline, den area, gipsy caravan, climbing frame, swings, slide, play marquee with soft floor, above ground sort of heated pool (not a big selling point for us).

The accommodation:

Dauphin suite: This consists of two interconnecting ensuite rooms which take up all of the second floor – a massive 76 square metres of space. Mum and Dad’s room has a king-sized draped bed plus a claw foot bath set in the window with views over the grounds – perfect for a long soak. There are also a couple of easy chairs and an ensuite toilet.

The kids’ room has three single beds and a sofa that can be turned into a fourth bed. There is a large ensuite shower room plus a small kitchen area with a microwave, mini fridge and kettle to make drinks and snacks or warm baby food.

The rooms are in the roof space between the two turrets, but they have 3.3 metre high ceilings with lots of exposed beams. The velux windows have black out blinds and other windows have curtains to ensure the kids go to sleep during Normandy's very light summers!

Emperor’s suite: Two luxurious rooms on the first floor with great views of the grounds from 3m high windows. Mum and Dad’s room is called Napoleon and has a draped double bed and sofa plus desk. The kids get the Josephine room with two single beds. The two rooms share a large shower room. There is also a baby bath trolley with changing mat, storage etc.

There is also a kitchenette with a fridge, microwave and kettle to make drinks and snacks or warm baby food. The kitchenette is off the parents' room and has been designed so that it can become a third bedroom for a child on a fold up bed.

The Roi suite: This is our most elegant suite. It consists of  the massive Marie Antoinette room for Mum and Dad plus the silk lined Louis room for the kids. Between the two rooms is a lounge area with a sofa. There is also a kitchen so you can make snacks whenever you want. The suite has huge double doors and takes up over half of the first floor.

The Marie Antoinette room has a large draped double bed (with a footboard - so not great for those over 6ft 3in) , sofa, desk and an ensuite bathroom. The Louis room has twin beds plus a small sofa that can become a bed. There is an ensuite shower room.

The kitchen has a fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster and baby bottle steriliser.

Need even more space? Well the Roi and Emperor’s suite can be linked together to make a four bedroomed flat with a kitchen diner. The Napoleon room can be converted into a large lounge if required. Price depends on the number of guests.

The Comte suite - A more compact suite on the ground floor. It has a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom plus a lounge that can be used as a bedroom for one or two children. The ensuite has a shower over the bath. It is small but perfectly formed.

It is also ideal for Granny and Grandpa, who can join in with a family holiday but enjoy some comfort and privacy.

The sofa in the lounge turns into a proper single bed. There is also room for a fold up bed or cot. You can get some noise from the lounge with this suite.

The cottage: There is a self catering cottage in the grounds with two bedrooms. It is more rustic than the chateau but very comfortable. There are exposed walls, old beams and wooden floors. It is 50 metres from the chateau. Some weeks it can be rented on an all inclusive basis at £1,800 for a family of four. Cottage rents Sunday to Sunday.

Ferry discounts

The great thing about Normandy is that it is far enough away to be different but close enough to get here easily by car (with all the stuff the kids can't live without!)

Ask us for a code to get a discount of up to 15% on crossings with Brittany Ferries.

Brittany Ferries sail from Portsmouth and Poole to Caen and Cherbourg, which are both an hour from Le Castel. They offer a choice of fast crafts and slower cruises.

The fast crafts are obviously much quicker, but they don't have much in the way of facilities on board. With the cruise ferries you can get a day time cabin for around £20 that gives you a great base and means you can put kids to bed for a while. There is a play area and two cinemas on board plus a wide choice of dining - self service cafe or a proper restaurant serving very good food.

If you prefer driving then Eurotunnel is a great option. The crossing on the train is 35 minutes and is very easy to use. You then have around a four hour drive to Le Castel. However, the pretty port of Honfleur is exactly half way and is a great place for lunch or just an explore.

 Wi-fi

There is free wifi access in the chateau, cottage and grounds. Coverage can be affected by the metre thick walls in the chateau, but it does now reach most of the bedrooms.
